The German Social Accident Insurance - DGUV Vorsorge for short - was already using the Telepaxx long-term archive to store CT and X-ray studies. In addition, DGUV Vorsorge was now looking for a replacement for CDs and DVDs to share images and findings with various doctors and patients.
German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV Vorsorge - formerly GVS)
The customer: Occupational healthcare for specific professional groups
The German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV Vorsorge) is a central service organisation run by the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the Energy, Textile, Electrical and Media Products Industry (BG ETEM) for the statutory accident insurance institutions. Among other things, it organises preventive occupational health care for people who have been exposed to certain harmful substances such as dust containing asbestos fibres during their working life. In addition to X-ray examinations, the DGUV Vorsorge offers a certain group of people close to their place of residence an annual examination using high-resolution computer tomography with a low radiation dose (LD-HRCT) for the early detection of lung cancer.
The challenge: Share CT and X-ray studies more efficiently
The DGUV Vorsorge carries out around 70,000 preventive medical check-ups per year as part of its occupational health programme - 20,000 of which are part of the lung cancer screening programme for a defined group of people. In the past, the associated CT and X-ray studies were stored on CDs and DVDs. Due to the large number of studies, the work involved in creating, sending and reading the data carriers resulted in a great deal of labour and high material costs. In addition, it was difficult to meet the given deadlines, as sending them by post often took too long. The DGUV Vorsorge was therefore looking for a way to make its work processes more efficient, cost-saving and convenient for everyone involved, such as the initial assessors, the employees of the DGUV Vorsorge in Augsburg and the second assessors.
„With the TMD Cloud from Telepaxx, we have found an efficient, convenient and, above all, secure solution for our complex work processes. This not only saves us time and money, but also increases the satisfaction of everyone involved.“
Christian Wolff, Deputy Head of the DGUV Prevention Department c/o BG ETEM
The solution: Digital storage solution with consigner portal
To make it easier to transmit and archive X-ray and CT images, DGUV Vorsorge opted for the long-term archive from Telepaxx Medical Data in combination with a sharing function. The data protection-compliant health cloud solution enables radiological facilities to automatically send the studies created to DGUV Vorsorge. These are then also available digitally for all further processes. For example, the current images can be sent to external specialists together with existing preliminary images for quality assurance.
After the decentralised examination and initial diagnosis of patients close to their place of residence, the medical data from the PACS of the primary consultant is automatically and digitally sent to DGUV Vorsorge via a DICOM interface. There, the staff can import the images and findings into the DGUV Vorsorge PACS and forward them to selected second opinion providers.
