Telemedicine platform for cardiology competence center
In order to provide better care for children with heart problems and to support the exchange of pediatric cardiologists in Northern Bavaria, the pediatric cardiology department of Erlangen University Hospital is using a privacy-compliant telemedicine platform.
The customer: Experts for cardiological diseases of children
The Pediatric Cardiology Department at Erlangen University Hospital and its medical partners offer specialized treatment at the highest level for all congenital and acquired heart diseases of children. More than 300 heart surgeries and over 300 MRI and CT examinations are performed there annually. This specialized treatment of congenital heart defects is available for patients all over Bavaria but is based in Erlangen and Munich. These hubs provide the necessary expertise and capacity for this rare disease around the clock.
The challenge: Compliant data exchange among experts
In order to decrease travel times for young patients and their parents, the University Hospital Erlangen works closely with specialists in private practices and referring hospitals in Northern Bavaria. Therefore, the Erlangen University Hospital, supported by Bayern Innovativ GmbH, was looking for a GDPR-compliant telemedicine platform, which can connect pediatric cardiologists online in a secure way and thus helps improve the treatment of affected children.
Telemedicine offers the opportunity to include the relevant long-term experience from outpatient care of patients into the treatment plan.
The solution: Secure and compliant telemedicine platform
Based on the established consigner and patient portal HealthDataSpace, Telepaxx Medical Data offers a telemedicine platform to meet the requirements of the University Hospital Erlangen and the competence network. The project was carried out in cooperation between Telepaxx, the University Hospital Erlangen and the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy in the program "Bayern Innovativ".
The so-called "Congenital Cardiology Cloud" enables the physicians of the competence network to exchange data from outpatient and inpatient care, such as image files, echo images and findings. All data is shared in compliance with data protection regulations.
In addition, the platform makes it easier to obtain secondary opinions and to clarify whether further inpatient measures are necessary.
