Secure data storage and processing in the cloud in accordance with BSI C5 certification and ISO 27001 meets the requirements of NIS-2 and KRITIS.

Immediate access during cyber attacks

Access image data again within minutes during a cyberattack or IT failure—even if the IT, PACS, or network is down.

Reliability for image data

Automatic data synchronization in a manufacturer-neutral image archive (VNA) parallel to the PACS archive ensures emergency access.

Workplace-independent availability

Access data via Backup PACS from the TMD Cloud from any Internet-enabled device. Diagnose DICOM data using the medical viewer.

Compliance with all regulatory requirements

C5-certified cloud for use in hospitals

The TMD Cloud has been tested in accordance with the C5 criteria catalog (BSI C5 – Type 1) and can therefore be used in a legally compliant manner for cloud-based archiving and viewing of medical image data.

In addition, Telepaxx is certified according to the international information security standard ISO 27001.

Emergency plan for your PACS

No treatment without image data

Business Continuity Management has long been mandatory for KRITIS-hospitals. With NIS-2, this requirement now also applies to small and medium-sized healthcare facilities.

141 cyberattacks in the healthcare sector in 2024 (BSI) – it's not a question of IF, but WHEN.

  • Patient safety and care at risk, no reliable diagnosis possible
  • Heavy fines for failure to implement NIS 2 and KRITIS measures
  • Financial damage caused by restoration costs
  • Reputation damage due to malfunctioning systems and press reports

Modern cloud solution instead of rigid backup

Easy emergency access to image data via the cloud

Traditional backup concepts often fail in the face of IT threats:

  • PACS backups depend on the hospital network
  • Recovery from PACS takes days to weeks
  • Complex hardware infrastructure (on-premises) and high IT costs

Modern cloud solutions such as the TMD Cloud from Telepaxx address these challenges and open up new possibilities for emergency management in imaging departments.

Seamless integration into IT infrastructure

Backup software that works with any PACS

The BCM solution from TMD Cloud integrates seamlessly into your existing IT systems:

  • Works with any RIS, HIS, PACS, and ePA
  • Easy commissioning by our professional team in just a few weeks
  • Temporary emergency image archive, which is set up in parallel to the PACS archive

Cost-effective without additional hardware

Reduces IT effort and costs

In addition to simple, fast, location-independent image access in the event of a complete IT failure, our Cloud BCM solution allows you to significantly reduce your IT costs and the associated expenses.

  • No additional hardware required in the home
  • Predictable monthly costs
  • Individually scalable, temporary storage capacity
  • Maintenance and compliance with the required safety standards by Telepaxx

Reliable crisis management

How business continuity management works with the TMD Cloud

To protect your image data against IT threats such as ransomware attacks, we proceed as follows:

Automatic protection in the background: Your DICOM data is synchronized with the cloud-based long-term archive (VNA) in parallel with PACS operation – highly available, encrypted, and according to your specifications.

Emergency access in minutes: In the event of an IT failure or cyberattack, authorized users can access all archived image data via mobile devices and hotspots. The integrated medical viewer enables immediate diagnosis.

The result: Patient care is restored in the shortest possible time, e.g. in the emergency room, enabling your hospital to continue operating.

Questions and answers about business continuity management for image data

Image data is a central component of numerous workflows in hospitals and other medical facilities. Imaging procedures are necessary both for diagnosing acute illnesses and for monitoring the progress of chronically ill patients.

In order to provide patients with the best possible treatment at all times—even in the event of a complete IT failure in the hospital—medical image data must be accessible at all times.

Since cyberattacks usually also require primary systems such as PACS or HIS/RIS to be shut down, hospitals need alternative access options for treatment-critical image data. Telepaxx offers such emergency access with its business continuity management concept from the TMD Cloud.

In order to access the images stored in the TMD Cloud in an emergency, it is necessary to have a powerful mobile hotspot for IT threat situations.

We would be happy to advise you on how to set up Internet access from the cloud via mobile hotspots as part of a business continuity management approach for image data. Please send us your request for a consultation using our contact form.

As part of the emergency plan, access to image data from the cloud is set up for selected end devices and users. This could be, for example, a suitably configured laptop in the emergency room that is connected to the mobile hotspot. Authorized users can then use this hotspot to access and evaluate DICOM data from the cloud via the TMD Cloud web portal.

One component of our BCM concept is access to DICOM data via the TMD Cloud Portal. This user-friendly web interface displays all available patient images in a clear list and allows the images to be opened with a certified medical web viewer with all standard diagnostic tools.

In order to be able to retrieve medical image data from the cloud in the event of a security incident, it must first be stored in the cloud archive. This can be done in parallel with normal operations according to defined settings. In this case, the images are stored not only in the PACS archive but also in the cloud archive in accordance with the defined rules. Thanks to our software-neutral approach, this is possible in combination with all commercially available PACS systems.

In addition, mobile hotspots and Internet-enabled devices (PCs, laptops, tablets) that are not connected to the hospital network must be provided.

We would be happy to provide you with detailed technical requirements in a personal consultation. Please send us your request for a consultation using our contact form.

The PACS and the data stored in the PACS backup are usually integrated into the hospital network. In the event of a cyberattack, this network is taken offline entirely to prevent all systems from being compromised. The TMD Cloud archive, on the other hand, is completely separate from the hospital network and therefore remains accessible via alternative internet connections.

With the right preparation (dedicated devices, mobile hotspots, etc.), authorized users can access image data again within minutes.

All data is stored in encrypted form in certified data centers in Germany. The geo-redundant storage of DICOM data ensures maximum reliability.

At Telepaxx, the security of your DICOM data is our top priority. Here is an overview of our security measures:

  • C5 certificate (type 1) from the BSI
  • ISO 27001 certified processes
  • end-to-end encryption
  • Multi-level access concept with authentication
  • Regular security audits

The cost of our business continuity management solution depends on the amount of data, the retention period, and the number of emergency users. We would be happy to provide you with a customized quote. As a guideline, the solution pays for itself by preventing just one day of downtime.

Yes, new DICOM data can also be archived in the cloud during emergency operation via the configured emergency terminals.

We recommend conducting a complete emergency access test at least once a year. The TMD Cloud allows you to run simple test scenarios at any time without disrupting normal operations.
