Vendor Neutral Archive for Asklepios

After intensive research, the clinic chain Asklepios opted for the digital long-term archive of Telepaxx Medical Data GmbH. Telepaxx has been storing and archiving radiological image and diagnostic findings data for one of the largest hospital operators in Germany with around 170 facilities in 14 federal states since 2009.

The customer: Leading hospital chain

With around 170 medical facilities in 14 German states and more than three and a half million patients annually, Asklepios is one of the leading hospital operators in Germany. Across all facilities, the Asklepios hospitals have more than 31,000 beds.

In addition, the Asklepios Group owns MEDILYS, one of the largest hospital laboratories in Europe, and the nationwide hospital operator MediClin, which has a total capacity of around 8,000 beds in eleven German states. The Asklepios portfolio is rounded off by its rehabilitation clinics and medical care centers for ambulant support of patients.

The challenge: Interoperability with diverse PACS

Asklepios decided in favor of the long-term archive by Telepaxx Medical Data after an intensive vendor search. Two aspects played a decisive role for the clinic operator in the selection process: The long-term archive had to be flexible to use and also interoperable with different existing systems, as the various facilities in the clinic group use different PACS.

Against this background, the clinic group was looking for a provider that would ease the long-term archiving of medical data and free up blocked resources in the IT department.

"The Telepaxx customer portal is a good way for us to create a support ticket with all the necessary information and attachments directly and without wasting time. In addition, it is possible to see at a glance which tickets are being processed. The joint communication process is documented in the ticket. This way, we can access information of already completed tickets without having to search in old emails."

The solution: Vendor Neutral Archiving (VNA) for the corporate image archive

With the vendor-neutral long-term archive by Telepaxx Medical Data, Asklepios was able to ensure that the relevant image and diagnostic data is transferred to and stored in a central corporate archive despite being stored in the various PACS at the individual hospitals. In addition, the VNA also ensures that this data can be accessed from different locations through standardized DICOM interfaces of the Telepaxx long-term archive.

In close cooperation between Asklepios and Telepaxx Medical Data, it was possible to jointly implement the digital long-term archive and roll out the various sites in a short project time - also thanks to the local Telepaxx support team. This support team resolved incoming tickets at short notice in coordination with Asklepios.
